Holiday Update!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
As for English 121, we have our annotated bibliography due soon about our argument paper. My topic (if you recall) is the Dearborn Homecoming Festival. I talked with Professor Peltier and decided that I am going to argue about firework laws. Another topic that he said would be helpful is to talk about the danger of carnivals. Both ideas present a lot of information in online articles.
The Celebration of Student Writing is also less than a week away, so I am getting to work on the poster board for our display. As I had previously mentioned, my group's topic is YouTube! I am really excited because YouTube is a lot of fun. Here is a link to one of my roommate's and my favorite video! Last week we had our writing workshop number three due, our extra credit was due, and I turned in the re-write for paper number one. I feel like we are getting a lot accomplished in this class!

I forgot to do this earlier... but here is a link to my Wikipedia page about the Dearborn Homecoming Festival! I feel so accomplished that I can say I contributed to an online encyclopedia! :)

Celebration of Student Writing

I am really excited for the Celebration of Student Writing! My group's topic is Youtube, and we already have a lot of really good ideas for how we are going to present the ideas at the celebration! The third writing center workshop is also due this week, as well as the extra credit and paper one rewrite. For the extra credit movie paper, I watched the Secret Window. It was really different than I thought it would be, but I definitely would recommend the movie to other people to watch! Hope everyone has a good thanksgiving break!

Next Paper!

We discussed the topic of our third paper in class on Tuesday, and our homework assignment was to think of different kinds of genres we are going to use to compliment our Wikipedia topics. I really like the idea of some kind of ad. Someone mentioned creating a t-shirt ad, which I think is a fabulous idea! I also really like the idea of using a poem or sonnet because they can become very descriptive. Anyone out there have any particular ideas you like specifically for your topic?

Wikipedia

My Wikipedia page is almost done! I am really excited to have it finished.. it makes me feel so accomplished! I am a little nervous though because I completely missed the point of the last paper, and I just really need to do good on this page! I pretty much have all of the code down so far. The only thing that I need to work on is putting in the bibliography where the references go. It is really useful that we can click to edit other pages and see the code. Good luck to everyone else in writing!

WIkipedia is Coming Along!

We are starting to do research and talk about our second paper in English 121. I thought it was a little bit difficult to write a couple of pages about links, but maybe it is because I could elaborate more. At first I was nervous that I wouldn't find a lot of information on my topic and that the information would be repetitive, but today I found a whole ton of useful points to use in my paper! Good luck to everyone else out there who is writing his or her paper!

The Latest

Hi everyone! So on Tuesday the Wikipedia paper number one rough draft is due, and I need to keep working on mine! I think I know what direction I am taking with this, and so far I have an outline to work with. The paper is centered around the research needed for the actual Wikipedia page, and so I am going through all of the different kinds of available research and describing which methods I am using. I think the hardest part of a paper is getting started.

Wikipedia

Our wikipedia project in class is something that is always lingering in the back of my mind, and I think I have finally come up with a topic! Where I used to live put on an annual homecoming festival that is very culturally based, and I think it would be something I would like to write about because a lot of people go to it and it is a ton of fun! Anyone else know what topic to pick yet?

Language Pet Peeves

On the English website, we are asked to tell everyone if we have any pet peeves about language! I think that everyone texts so much that it is a huge form of communication, and one thing that really bothers me is when people mix up the words "there" and "their." Another funny language thing that I have noticed from one of my friends is that she substitutes the word "whenever" in place of "when" all the time, every time. It does not necessarily bother me but it is really noticeable, and she is from Pittsburgh so maybe it has something to do with slang!
